Medicare has updated their membership cards with a new look, as well as security features.
Medicare has updated their membership cards with a sleek modern look, as well as new security features. The cards are issued to more than 60 million United States citizens.
Currently, the cards show Medicare Claim Numbers that are also the patients’ social security numbers. Due to increasing digital use of patient identification to conduct business, and purchases, those that utilize the cards are at a growing risk of having their information compromised.
AARP and other organizations representing their patient groups have for years been clamoring for a more secure process, and the new Medicare cards could help. The updated cards contain much of the same information, but the Medicare Claim Numbers are no longer patients’ Social Security numbers.
