Very Few States Require HPV Vaccine

Human papillomavirus (HPV) is one of the most common STDs with more than three-quarters of individuals affected, yet the HPV vaccination is well under the Healthy People 2020 goal of 80%.

Human papillomavirus (HPV) is one of the most common STDs with more than three-quarters of individuals affected, yet the HPV vaccination is well under the Healthy People 2020 goal of 80%.

Only two states require the HPV vaccine, Virginia and Washington, DC. With Rhode Island following suit this month, the United States is still well below the Healthy People 2020 goal of 80%. Strategies to promote higher vaccination rates and encourage more states to adopt requirements are urgently needed.
